Our students come to COA from 49 states and 32 countries. And while at COA they accomplish amazing things — in amazingly different fields. Recently…
3 students presented original research at the annual meeting of the Waterbird Society in Annapolis, Maryland.
1 student produced a film documenting COA’s student leadership at the 2011 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conference in Durban, South Africa.
3 students organized and implemented a student sailing program on campus.
90+ students participated, and helped to organize COA’s Food Connections Conference.
8 students participated in the Future of Food Summer Academy in Witzenhausen, Germany.
2 students composed and released original music compositions.
6 students presented original research at the Society for Marine Mammalogy’s Biennial Conference in Tampa.
6 students attended the World Water Forum in Marseilles.
5 students attended the Degrowth in the Americas conference in Montreal.
7 student projects were presented for review and accepted into COA’s Sustainable Venture Incubator.
15 students catalyzed the student movement at the Rio+20 climate change negotiations of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro.
3 students have had films selected for participation in the Maine International Film Festival.
1 student received a Davis Project for Peace award to improve water conservation in Bolivia.
4 students presented original research at the Northeast Natural History Conference.
1 student won the Garden Club of America Zeller Summer Scholarship for work in the field of Medical Botany.
1 student received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
4 students created diorama exhibits for the Dorr Museum of Natural History.
8 students exhibited their art in show openings at the Ethel H. Blum Gallery.
2 students received a Techstart Grant from the Maine Technology Institute.
1 student presented original research at the Northeast Undergraduate Research and Development Symposium.
4 student theatrical pieces were produced, directed, and played by current COA students.
1 student received the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship for students planning careers in math and science.
1 student received the Morris K. and Stewart L. Udall Scholarship for her commitment to sustainable development. 2 COA students received honorable mentions for the award.
