About the Library
Who We Are
Thorndike Library is home to the college’s information resources, the archives and special collections, and audio-visual materials. Below is a quick overview of our collections and services. We look forward to seeing you!
Books, Videos and More – We have over 40,000 print books, 9,000 electronic books, 1,700 DVDs and videos, and 1,000 music CDs. Search for them in our library catalog.
Databases – Our Databases A-Z list provides access to dozens of research databases made available via college funding and the state of Maine. Use them to find full text journal articles, images, e-books, statistics and more.
Journals – The college subscribes to 150 print journals. Through direct subscriptions and databases, the library has full text access to more than 20,000 electronic journal titles. Search the journals by title.
Archives and Special Collections – Within these collections you will find material related specifically to the school’s history and our rare books.
Audio-Visual Equipment – Cameras, tripods, projectors, recording equipment, cables, and more are available for circulation to eligible borrowers as determined by the A-V Technology Specialist. There is also a DVD/VHS setup with headphones in the library stacks for viewing movies.
Interlibrary Loans – The library is able to borrow items for you (such as books and articles) that we do not have from other libraries via ILL.
Reserves – Books and articles faculty would like students to access for their classes are placed on reserve in the library for shortened borrowing periods.
Arrangements with Other Libraries – We have special arrangements with a number of area libraries, making access to their collections easier for you.
Computers and Loaner Laptops – There are desktop computers for research in our library lobby. There are also a variety of laptops available for short term loans as well as in-library use only. See our laptop policy for more information.
Copying, Printing and Faxing – Black/white and color copying, scanning and printing are available as is faxing. See prices.
