7 p.m., Tuesday May 17. Gates.
John Cooper on alto and soprano saxes, and bass
performing, enlightening, educating
Chris Humphrey on piano and jazz vocals
(Chris is Director of Music at Cheverus High School in Portland, and on the music faculty of the University of Southern Maine. He formerly sang with "The Ritz," has the album Nothing but Blue Skies, and "is one of the finest jazz vocalists on the east coast," says John Cooper.)
Gabe Terraccino on upright bass and jazz violin
"Gabe is one of the most talented young musicians that Maine has ever produced," says Cooper. "I met him when I auditioned him for Maine's All-State jazz three years ago. If there is only one reason to come to this concert, make it because of seeing a true up and coming super talent. Ten years from now, you will be able to tell your friends that you heard Gabe when he was only 17. If you think he is phenomenal on bass, you will not believe what he can do on the violin.
Mike Bennett drums.
"Over my forty-one years of performing, I've never worked with a better 'time keeper' than Mike. His solos are always creative, and super musical. He is the consummate drummer. His time is flawless, and he always swings. The students here are very, very lucky to have him here at COA to teach."
This is the same group that has played at the 2009 and 2010 Bar Harbor Jazz Festivals to large crowds at the Village Green.
