Work Study

Workstudy generally refers to a federally funded program subject to certain eligibility rules. Many students assume workstudy is simply the college offering to pay them for a job but in most cases students must have financial need based on the FAFSA in order to qualify.  Students receive a check made out to them for work completed and then they can spend the money however they wish. The amount of hours a student is eligible to work depends on the amount of the award and the hourly rate they are paid. At COA, a student may not work more than 20 hours per week in a workstudy program but the average amount of hours is much less than this. COA uses Maine State minimum wage for entry level positions which is currently higher than the federal minimum wage.
