College of the Atlantic & Acadia National Park

COA students and alumni have worked with Acadia National Park (ANP) on several collaborative projects, including invasive species control, peregrine falcon monitoring, visitor interpretation, re-vegetation, bald eagle nest monitoring… the list goes on.

• Joint curation of Acadia Herbarium with the National Park System (NPS)
  
• Two COA alumni co-authored The Plants of Acadia National Park
• Active collaboration in GIS, developing/sharing data layers
• Acadia Fellows Program places students in projects in ANP
• COA has hosted Coastal Ecosystem Studies Unit meetings
• Collaborative studies of water quality in North East Creek watershed
• Multiple COA alumni are employed by NPS in both seasonal and long-term positions
• Developed guidelines for monitoring ANP island nesting seabird populations
• On-going study of impact of sea-level rise on ANP islands
• On-going study of salamander populations in ANP
• COA Students presented papers at first ANP/SERC (Schoodic Education and Research Center Institute) science symposium
